Create a Kobo-oriented copy of a DRM-free ebook in your browser. The converter adds numbered koboSpan elements to readable XHTML text, rebuilds the package, and downloads a separate .kepub.epub file. The source remains unchanged. This independent tool is not affiliated with Rakuten Kobo, does not connect to an account or store, and does not remove DRM.
The ebook, metadata, chapter text, and result stay in current-tab memory.
Readable text receives stable identifiers used for finer position references.
The download uses the conventional book.kepub.epub name without renaming the source.
Use EPUB to KEPUB Converter for the practical conversion task, with privacy and compatibility boundaries stated before download.
KEPUB processing involves more than changing a file extension. The converter visits non-navigation XHTML items in the manifest and wraps readable text inside headings, paragraphs, list items, captions, quotations, and table cells. Each wrapper receives the koboSpan class and an identifier such as kobo.12.3. Existing Kobo spans are not wrapped again. Script, style, SVG, MathML, code, textarea, and whitespace-sensitive preformatted regions are skipped to avoid changing executable, visual, formula, or code content.
The output keeps OPF metadata, identifiers, cover declarations, manifest, spine, navigation, CSS, images, fonts, and other resources. It does not add a store identifier, change the author, rewrite device margins, create account data, inject analytics, or add DRM. Existing source problems are also not repaired automatically. Begin with an EPUB that already opens correctly and use dedicated validation for structural errors.
A standard EPUB is an open publication package; KEPUB is Kobo’s EPUB-derived format and workflow. Kobo can perform its own processing through some store or cloud delivery paths. This page prepares content markers and a conventional sideloading name, but it does not simulate Kobo servers or certify a retailer submission. Recognition and reading behavior can vary by device, firmware, app, and transfer method. Test the actual combination you plan to use.

The parser checks its container, package, navigation, reading order, resource limits, and encryption declarations. Fix a broken source before making a Kobo copy.
The browser processes valid XHTML content and counts changed files and spans. It does not run book scripts, fetch remote assets, or connect to Kobo services.
Sideload the .kepub.epub through a compatible method, then check contents navigation, font changes, links, footnotes, images, and reading progress on the target device.
Understand what EPUB to KEPUB Converter preserves, changes, and does not support before processing.
DRM-free reflowable EPUB
Fixed-layout, interactive, encrypted, or malformed publications may not produce useful Kobo behavior.
Numbered koboSpan markers
Book text is retained inside new spans; navigation and sensitive markup contexts are skipped.
filename.kepub.epub
The double extension is intentional, though recognition still depends on Kobo software and transfer path.
Metadata, CSS, images, fonts
No account sync, store listing, watermark, analytics, or DRM is created.
Direct answers about EPUB to KEPUB Converter privacy, compatibility, and output.
KEPUB is Kobo’s EPUB-derived reading format and workflow. Additional content processing can help its software handle positions, pagination, statistics, and device interactions. A sideloaded copy commonly uses .kepub.epub.
Some readers prefer Kobo’s progress, statistics, navigation, or rendering behavior with KEPUB. Standard EPUB may already work, so conversion is optional. Compare both formats on your device before choosing one.
No. EPUB Toolset is independent and not endorsed by Rakuten Kobo. It does not use a Kobo login, private service, or store workflow. Product names are used only to explain the intended compatibility.
No. Unsupported encryption is rejected. The tool cannot turn ACSM, a store-protected book, or a library loan into an unrestricted file. Format conversion does not change copyright or license terms.
It is a common signal for a Kobo-oriented sideloaded EPUB. Renaming it to plain .epub can cause software to treat it as a standard EPUB. Consult current device guidance if recognition differs.
The package resources and text remain, but Kobo can apply different typography, margins, pagination, and footnote handling. Added spans can also affect unusually precise CSS selectors. Test complex chapters on the target device.
This tool does not certify retailer delivery. Publisher portals may request a standard EPUB and perform their own conversion. Check current official submission requirements rather than treating a sideloading file as an approved store asset.
