Create from Word

Convert DOCX to EPUB without uploading your manuscript

Turn a structured Word document into a reflowable EPUB 3 in the current browser tab. Heading 1 starts a chapter; lower-level headings, paragraphs, basic emphasis, lists, and simple tables become ebook markup. Review the title, author, and language before download. The tool is intended for clean manuscripts, not a pixel-for-pixel copy of Word pages.

01

Private manuscript handling

The document, file name, metadata, and output stay in this tab. There is no account or server conversion queue.

02

Predictable chapter breaks

Word Heading 1 creates chapters and table-of-contents entries. If none exists, the document becomes one chapter.

03

A complete EPUB 3 package

The download includes OPF metadata, navigation, a stylesheet, ordered XHTML chapters, and the required container files.

Core features

DOCX to EPUB Converter features and output

Use DOCX to EPUB Converter for the practical conversion task, with privacy and compatibility boundaries stated before download.

Structure-led DOCX to EPUB conversion

The converter reads Word styles instead of guessing structure from font size. Use Heading 1 for chapter titles, Heading 2 or Heading 3 for sections, and Normal for body copy. Basic bold, italic, line breaks, simple list items, and table text remain readable. This approach produces a better outline and lets the ebook adapt to screen size and reader settings. Headers, footers, comments, tracked-change controls, text boxes, macros, equations, SmartArt, and page-positioned objects are not imported.

Useful publication metadata

The title, primary author, and BCP 47 language tag are written to package.opf. If the title is blank, the DOCX file name is used. A unique identifier and modification time are created locally. The tool does not invent an ISBN, publisher, publication date, or rights statement because those require an editorial decision. You can add them later with the metadata editor.

Reflowable output, not copied pages

DOCX describes office pages; EPUB describes an adaptable reading order. Fonts, margins, line breaks, and page counts can therefore change across e-readers. Complex columns, floating shapes, automatic citations, footnotes, and embedded drawings are outside this first import profile. Embedded images are currently omitted. Inspect the result before publishing, particularly where meaning depends on an object that Word places outside the main text flow.

Workflow

How to use DOCX to EPUB Converter in three steps

The file is processed by DOCX to EPUB Converter within the current browser tab.

1

Prepare and choose the DOCX

Apply Heading 1 to intended chapter names, settle tracked changes, remove private comments, and save as .docx. Choose a file up to 64 MB. Unsafe archive paths and abnormal package expansion are rejected locally.

2

Review the book details

Confirm the reader-facing title, author, and language. These values affect only the new ebook. The chapter sequence follows the original Word body order.

3

Download and inspect the EPUB

Generate the file, then open it in the EPUB viewer. Check the contents list, headings, tables, emphasis, and paragraph flow. Use a dedicated validator and target-device tests before distribution.

Chapter rule

Word Heading 1

This explicit rule is easier to review than guessing from bold text, font size, or manual page breaks.

Preserved

Text and basic structure

Paragraphs, headings, emphasis, line breaks, simple lists, and table text are converted; complex Word objects are omitted.

Output

New reflowable EPUB 3

The source document is not overwritten. Closing or refreshing the tab clears the working session.

FAQ

DOCX to EPUB Converter questions and answers

Direct answers about DOCX to EPUB Converter privacy, compatibility, and output.

Can I convert Word to EPUB without uploading the file?

Yes. Parsing, chapter creation, and packaging run in the browser. The manuscript is not posted to a conversion service. The web page must first load, but its local processing model keeps book content in the tab.

How are chapters detected?

Each Heading 1 paragraph starts a chapter and supplies its navigation label. Lower-level headings stay within that chapter. A manuscript without Heading 1 becomes a single-chapter book. Check Word’s Navigation pane before conversion.

Will the ebook look exactly like Word?

No. Reflowable ebooks let readers choose fonts, margins, and text size, so fixed Word pagination is not preserved. The converter retains supported meaning and hierarchy instead of imitating paper geometry. Use PDF when exact pages are the real requirement.

What happens to images, footnotes, and tables?

Simple tables become HTML tables. Embedded images, footnotes, endnotes, charts, equations, and complex drawings are not exported in this release. If they carry essential information, use a richer production workflow or add the material during post-conversion editing.

Can I send the result to Kindle or Kobo?

The download is a general EPUB 3 that can be tested in compatible readers. Retailer and delivery services may perform further conversion and apply their own current rules. For Kobo-specific reading markers, check the general book first and then use the KEPUB converter.

Is the result ready for publication?

Treat it as a structured draft. Read every chapter, verify metadata and navigation, inspect omitted-object locations, test at different font sizes, and run dedicated EPUB validation. The converter cannot certify retailer policy, accessibility quality, or content rights.
